Obituary

RANDOLPH - Richard Malcom Bailey, Jr. known fondly to his friends and family as Dick, was born on January 3, 1951, in Portland, Maine, to Dorothy Maxine Duplessis and Richard Malcolm Bailey who preceded him in death. Richard's life journey ended on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, but his legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the unique memories he created. Dick was a man of simple joys, with a heart that beat in rhythm to the music of life. Dick is survived by his wife Millicent known as Millie by all had 46 years together and made a lot of memories; brother Scott and his partner Roger StPierre ; cousin David Lancaster and wife Donna; niece Belinda Brewer and her son Kenny, who he was close to; nephew Bradley Brewer and wife Anne; a very special friend Claudia Bailey who was and is always there when needed; his two cats Sam and Tony, and several nieces and nephews. Richard spent his days laboring at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, a noble profession that showcased his deep appreciation for those who served, then went to work in the laundry at AMHI in Augusta. He was a man of many talents and hobbies, and his love for woodworking was only matched by his passion for playing the guitar. His fingers danced on the strings, creating music that entranced and soothed all who had the privilege of listening. Richard's love for The Beatles was infectious, his enthusiasm turning even the most indifferent listener into a fan. As George Harrison once said, "With every mistake, we must surely be learning." Richard embodied this sentiment, constantly growing and evolving through his experiences and passions. Richard's graveside service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta. As we gather to celebrate Richard's life, it will be a time of sorrow, yes, but also a time of shared memories, laughter, and love. At Dick's request no flowers, please. We invite you to celebrate Richard's life by sharing your memories of him. Your stories, photos, and sentiments will serve as a lasting tribute to a man whose life was a melody of love, laughter, and resilience. Please leave your memories and upload your photos to Richard's memorial page www.staplesfuneralhome.com In the words of John Lennon, "Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears." Richard's life was a testament to this philosophy, and we invite you to celebrate his life in the same spirit.
