Obituary

SCARBOROUGH – Robert Eugene Canfield, 100, of Scarborough, and formerly of Chelsea, died Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in Beloit, WI, on February 12, 1925, the son of Royal and Lucille (Neyhart) Canfield. After High School Bob joined the Navy serving in WWII as a munitions specialist. After discharge he went to college to prepare for the ministry. There he met his future wife, Helen Anderson. They had two children, Daniel and Deborah. He served many years as a pastor in both New York and Maine. He retired to Chelsea, Maine. After retiring he had to have a leg amputated which placed him in residence first in Maine Veterans Home in Augusta then transferring to MVH in Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother, the love of his life wife Helen and his son Daniel. Robert is survived by his daughter, Deborah Hutchinson and husband John, of Windham, two grandsons, Eric in NC and Shawn and two great-grandchildren, Dahlia and Oliver, all in Scarborough, Maine. Also, several nieces and nephews in WI and TX. His funeral will be at the Windham Church of the Nazarene on Rt 202 in Windham, Maine on April 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
