Obituary

RANDOLPH - Robert David Porter, 88, of Randolph, Maine, a man of quiet strength and a wonderfully dry sense of humor, embarked on his final journey on August 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

He was born on June 24, 1938, in Melrose, Massachusetts, to Aaron and Helen Porter.

Bob, as he was affectionately known, spent his formative years in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School and taking night courses at M.I.T., then living in Newbury, MA, Florida and Ipswich, MA before moving to Maine.

Bob dedicated his professional life as an Electronic Test Engineer in field service for many years, traveling all over the world. He was a valued member of the team at Teradyne in Boston, Massachusetts. He also worked at Digital and S.C.I.  His keen intellect and meticulous nature were hallmarks of his career, but it was his gentle spirit and the twinkle in his eye that truly defined him. He also served in the National Guard for 7 years as a Communication Tech.

Beyond his professional endeavors, his passion for amateur radio and connecting with others brought him a sense of community and adventure. Bob also found immense joy in building intricate boat models, a testament of his patience and attention to detail.  He also cultivated beautiful vegetable gardens, finding peace and satisfaction in nurturing food from the soil. His stamp collection was another window into his appreciation for history and global connection. Bob also had a deep love for boating, whether cruising the serene rivers or exploring the open ocean.

He cherished his family above all else. Bob shared a loving marriage with his wife, Donna, for 58 years.  He treasured family holidays and gatherings. Summertime was particularly special to him, a season dedicated to spending quality time with his beloved family and his adoring grandchildren. His love for the family dog was also a constant, a furry companion who shared in his quiet joys.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Ruth Porter; his children, Christopher and wife Erin, Mark and companion Darlene, Jason and wife Jill; grandchildren, Adam and wife Skye, Ben and fiancée Mattie, Abbie and companion Tegin, Karisa and one great granddaughter baby Ilya; and sister, Carolyn and husband Bruce Ilsley.

He was predeceased by his parents, Aaron and Helen Porter, many aunts, uncles and cousins and his best friend David Dowling.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. He will be interred in the family plot in Newbury, MA.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
