Robert Sproul, Sr Obituary (2014)

GARDINER - Robert J. Sproul Sr., 85, beloved husband of Donna, passed peacefully from this Earth into the loving arms of his wonderful Lord and Savior on the Lord's Day Sept. 21, 2014, in the Hospice Unit of Togus Veterans' Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Bob retired from the Postal service after 18 years as a rural route carrier in Litchfield. He was employed as a Nurse's Aide at Togus for nine years, electrician during his Navy time and an oil burner technician. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Gardiner Nazarene Church for the last 36 years of his life. Bob was predeceased by sisters Anne Tomasello, Lillian Quigley, Jane Morin, Mary Wing, Katie Cronin, and brothers Oliver Sproul, Paul Sproul and Harvey Sproul, two grandchildren, Brian Tourtelotte and Heidi Magee. He is survived by his devoted wife Donna M. Sproul of Gardiner, his children, Suzanne Larrabee and husband Bruce of Augusta, Ruby Diane Whitmore of Whitefield, Judy L. Magee of Gardiner, Robert J. Sproul Jr. of Lewiston and Patricia Christopher of Auburn, stepsons Douglas Voter and wife Lisa of Weld and Dennis Voter and Wendy of South Portland, his sister Ida Owen of Augusta and Pauline Marceau of Livermore Falls, sister-in-law Jeannette Sproul of Farmington, brother-in-law Dennis Cronin of Illinois, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Augusta. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, September 27, at the Gardiner Nazarene Church at 1 p.m. with Scott Jones officiating. There will be a Celebration of Life following the service in the Fellowship Hall, all are welcome. It is Bob's and Donna's wish in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a much needed new roof at the Nazarene Church c/o Pastor Scott, 6 Nazarene Way, Gardiner ME 04345. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
