Obituary

GARDINER – Ronald H. Sawyer, (Ronnie), 74, passed away peacefully August 14th, 2014. His wife and family were by his side until he made his journey to be home with the Lord. Ronnie was born in Gardiner on July 2nd, 1940, the son of Harry and Ethel (Cameron) Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was educated in the Gardiner school system and then went on to serve his country in the Marines during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed as a rigger with Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine before an injury on the job forced him into early retirement. Ronnie was an avid sportsman who, before becoming ill, loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was proud to brag that he had assembled 100’s of unduplicated puzzles. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ethel Sawyer; his brother Darryl Hanson and wife Margaret, and his devoted, faithful companion Shep who will be buried with him. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Veronica (Horak) Sawyer of Gardiner; his son, Darrell Sawyer and wife Nancy, of Alaska; Sister Claire Hester of Oklahoma; Sisters-In-Law, Eileen Hallett, Liz Horak, Bernadette Guiffreda, Deborah LaFemina; and several nieces; nephews, and dear friends. At Ronnie’s request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial be will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 12 Summer Street, Hallowell on August 19th, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Burial with military honors and committal will follow in Maine Avenue Cemetery, Maine Ave., Farmingdale. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Maine General Alfond Center for Health, especially the staff of 2 West for the care, compassion and love they showed to Ronnie and his family during his stay with them.
