Randolph - Rosaire Joseph Giroux, Jr. 79, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Maine Veterans Home, after a long arduous battle with Parkinson's disease. Rosaire was born in South Gardiner, June 2, 1935, the only son of Rosaire and Margaret Giroux. He is predeceased by his parents, an infant son, Christopher, and sister-in-law Tanness Smith.
A graduate of Cony High School, Rosaire served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964, deployed to Korea. When he returned to Maine, he worked for the Hazard Shoe Company and then Etonic until closure in 1999, most notably making speciality golf shoes for Chevy Chase for his role in Caddyshack. Rosaire was an avid sportsman who loved football, baseball, golf, and boxing. He coached several youth baseball teams inspiring his daughter's love of the game. Rosaire loved building and flying model airplanes and fixing all things electronic before Parkinson's removed his ability to work with his hands. He also loved watching the night skies with a telescope, with his daughter Rebecca, spending hours in the dead of winter to find a stellar object.
Rosaire is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rachel Giroux of Randolph, and treasured daughter, Rebecca Graham of Bangor, Northern Ireland, cherished son-in-law Mark Graham of Edgecomb, adored grandchildren, Connor Graham and his partner Nika Karlsson of Kennebunk, Brandon Graham of Edgecomb, Margaret Graham of Edgecomb and Danielle Graham of Readfield, brother-in-law David Smith, of South Gardiner and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing hours will be Tuesday August 26, 2014 from 4-7PM at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner. Services will be held with military honors, graveside at the Litchfield Planes Cemetery Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers please send donations in his honor, to Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner to defray the cost of the funeral.
