PITTSTON - Royce George Goodwin, age 59, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, after a courageous battle with cancer. Royce was born in Gardiner on January 27, 1958, the middle of three children born to Kathleen and Wentworth Goodwin. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1976 and was employed as an Auditor for the State of Maine for many years until his retirement. Royce had a quiet, gentle spirit, and family was one of the most important things to him. He did extensive genealogy research on his family and produced comprehensive booklets on the history of both sides of his family, which he proudly distributed to all family members. Royce enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Cobbossee Stream in Gardiner and the many cookouts and family gatherings which were held there over the years. He also enjoyed fantasy baseball, playing poker with his long-time poker buddies, listening to music, and following the Boston Red Sox. He was an avid gardener, having created many beautiful flower gardens over the years, not only at his own home, but also at the home of his parents and at the homes of other family members, as well. Flower gardening was truly his passion and he thoroughly enjoyed it He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Alice Goodwin; and his maternal grandparents, George and Mary Lavallee. Royce is survived by his loving parents, Kathleen and Wentworth (Wimp) Goodwin of Pittston; his sister, Glenda Goodwin and her fianc, Doug Clark, of Randolph; his brother, Robin Goodwin and his wife, Sharon, of Pittston; his girlfriend, Tomi Erskine, of Pittston; and his nephews, Brian Goodwin and his wife, Bethany, of Pittston; and Eric Goodwin and his girlfriend, Emily Michaud, of Hallowell; as well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Pittston on Tuesday, September 26th @ 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or Chrysalis Place-Gardiner Food Pantry.
