1938 - 2021
WEST GARDINER - Sandra Elizabeth (MacDonald) Berglund, 82, of West Gardiner, Maine, died peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, on October 11, 1938, the daughter of Roy and Isobel (Saunders) MacDonald.
An antique dealer and collector for over 50 years, Sandy loved her dolls and bears. She was known to stop at every yard sale and enjoyed attending area auctions. Brimfield, Montsweag and Arundel were among some of her favorite places.
Sandy was an extremely talented cook that rarely used a recipe. Her dishes were legendary and will be fondly remembered. Anyone who knew her, also knew her door was always open for a visit, and there was always a pot of hot coffee ready with something tasty nearby.
One of Sandy's favorite accomplishments was her time spent volunteering at the Cohen Center in Hallowell, Maine. She had a great ear for listening and reminiscing about the old days, bringing joy to anyone she met.
She was predeceased by her parents, Isobel Pierce and Roy MacDonald; sister June (MacDonald) Mackie; loving husband, Earl; and sons Karl, Scott and Mark. She is survived by her son, Kris Berglund and his partner Joanna Torow, of Woolwich; daughters-in-law Wendi Berglund of Norton, Massachusetts, and Deirdre Berglund of West Gardiner, Maine; loving grandchildren, Kristen, Erik, Nik, Drew, Joe and Mollie; and her dear brother, Phil MacDonald and his wife Marg of Prince Edward Island. Sandy was adored and loved by many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and special friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, Augusta, Maine, for the exceptional care given to Sandy by Dr. Laura Caron, Nurse Cheryl, CNA Tricia, and many more. They are truly heroes and angels.
A private memorial service will be held at Staples Funeral Home.
Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website: www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com
