Obituary

Windsor- Sandra C. McKechnie, 87, of Caswell Road, died peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn. Sandra was born in Gardiner, Maine on March 13, 1938, the daughter of the late William S. and Harriet Morven. She attended local schools in Gardiner. She married Merle Trask Jr. in Gardiner, he passed on February 2, 1974. She then met and married her second husband, Lysander McKechnie. For thirty-four years, Sandi worked at the Southern Kennebec Child Development Corporation in Gardiner. She would start her day as a cook in the kitchen but would end her day working as a teacher's assistant in the classroom, retiring in 2003. Sandi not only loved the children she worked with, but her coworkers also. In her spare time, Sandi loved going to lawn and garage sales to look for treasure, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, day trips with family and friends, camping with the family, shopping, word search puzzles and going dancing with Lysander wherever they could find one. Her greatest love was the time she spent surrounded by her family and friends. She loved organizing and cooking for large family gatherings. She was a longtime member of the Gardiner Sportsman Club Ladies Auxiliary. Sandi was predeceased by her husband, Lysander McKechnie; a son, Randy J. Trask; grandson, Peter; brother, Dickie Leathers, a sister Juanita McKenna; half-sister, Brenda Moody. She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Pare of Windsor, Harriet and Norman Nadeau of Jay, Sylvia and Brian Abbott of Warren; a son, Steven R. Sr. and Jan Trask of Augusta; twenty-six grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours celebrating Sandi's life will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, ME with a service to follow at the funeral home at 12pm. Burial will be in the Spring at Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
