VASSALBORO - On February 5, 2025, we bid farewell to a truly remarkable woman, Susie E. Thornton, born March 23, 1941, in Augusta, Maine. Susie was a beacon of light in our lives, her witty charm and loyal nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She lived her life fully, with an unwavering dedication to her family and her work, always putting others before herself.
Susie had a long and fulfilling career in the healthcare industry as a CNA / DSP, a path she chose due to her innate desire to help and care for others. Even after her retirement, her dedication to her profession never waned, and she continued her caring nature within her own family and community. She was a faithful weekly attendee at her local church, showing her unwavering faith and commitment to her community. In her leisure time, Susie was an avid reader, always seen with a book in hand, and she adored a good game of BINGO, her witty mind always ready for a challenge.
Susie's most cherished treasure was her family. She was a loving widow and a caring mother. She was predeceased by her parents Guy and Priscilla; Husband Clifton Thornton, Sr.; son Clifton Thornton, Jr; sister Bonnie Smith; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Survived by her children Bunny Mansir, and husband Ron, of Pittston, Barbara Wood and husband Denis, of Vassalboro, Peter Thornton and wife Alyce, West Gardiner, Ivan Thornton and partner Michelle, of Pittston, and Brenda Poulin and Husband Jim, of Vassalboro; sister Kathy White, of South Pairs; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She often said that what mattered most to her were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her face would light up at the mention of them, her love for them was deeper than the ocean.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 3-5pm at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, Maine, 04345. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 2:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14 Hasson Street, Farmingdale, Maine, 04344.
