Hallowell - Thelma Christina Raven Seaman, 96, of Hallowell, formerly of Litchfield, passed away at the Androscoggin Hospice House on May 27, 2022, with family members by her side.
She was born on September 30, 1925 to Ernest and Ellura Raven in Freedom.
She graduated from Freedom Academy in 1945. She enjoyed playing the accordion, riding horses, softball and was a letter girl in high school basketball. She was a graduate of Pelletier’s Beauty School in Lewiston in 1946. She moved to Florida in the fall of 1946, where she met Carl. They were married June 1, 1947. They moved to Maine in spring 1950, when they purchased the farm in Litchfield.
They raised five children on the farm which became their livelihood. A strong work ethic was instilled on the children as they worked on the farm. Thelma maintained her beauty shop within the home, and she was licensed as a cosmetologist from 1946 until 1997. She also worked outside the home as a waitress. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, and decorative handicrafts. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church from 1950 to 1985 and was a member of the choir. She later became a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
In 1988, Carl and Thelma resided in Bradenton, Florida during the winter months. They enjoyed shuffleboard, horseshoes, playing cards, hymn sings, and helping neighbors within the local community park. She returned home to Maine in 2011. She enjoyed her independence. Thelma has been a resident of Woodlands in Hallowell since 2014.
Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Carl Seaman; her children, Caroline Brown, and Ronald Seaman; and her grandchild, Aliyah Simone Seaman.
She is survived by three children, Michael Seaman and his wife Judy of Litchfield, Eric Seaman and his wife Katie of Litchfield, Ann Johansen and her husband Jon of Winterport, daughter-in-law Karla Seaman of Freeport, son-in-law Frederick Brown and wife Sylvia of Augusta, eight grandchildren: Stacy, Kara, Andy, Trevor, Seth, Noah, Shantel, Emma; and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at the Litchfield Plains Cemetery. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Thelma’s name be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 757 Summer Street, Auburn, Maine 04210.
