Augusta- Virginia Pooler, 94, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, at Oak Grove Center surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia was born on March 23, 1931, in Waterville, she was a beacon of love and faith in her community. She spent her life serving others, both in her profession as a dedicated stitcher in the footwear industry and in her passionate involvement with the Catholic Church in Augusta and Gardiner. Virginia was a Eucharistic Minister and Prayer Warrior, roles she approached with an inspiring commitment and devotion. As Mother Teresa once said, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Virginia lived this truth, touching countless lives with her unwavering faith and love.
A lover of words, Virginia was an avid reader of fiction novels and found solace and strength in the pages of her Bible. She enjoyed the challenge of puzzles and the introspective quietude of writing in her journal. Virginia also found joy in delivering Meals on Wheels, a testament to her tireless dedication to serving her community. But above all, her most cherished moments were those spent with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her monthly meetings with the group she referred to as the Gadabouts. Virginia's home in Augusta, Maine, was always filled with warmth, love, and the delightful chatter of shared stories and laughter.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Michael, Dana, Alan, and Mark Pooler; her daughter, Lisa Drake; goddaughter, Jeannie Rowell; fourteen beloved grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Steeves and many adored nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Pooler; her parents, Harold and Lena Marshall; and her siblings, Richard Marshall, Geraldine LaValle, Theresa Major, Dolores Lepordo, Joan Couturier, and Jeanine McClay. As we remember Virginia, let us do so with the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "It is not length of life, but depth of life." Virginia's life was a testament to the depth of love, faith, and selfless service.
