Litchfield - William R. Quackenbush, 99, passed away on September 2, 2022, at MaineGeneral Glenridge Nursing home following a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret M. (Rountree) Quackenbush and son-in-law Richard Nicolazzo.
William was born March 12, 1923, in Wyckoff, New Jersey, son of the late Roy P. and Mary (Ricker) Quackenbush.
William was a WW II United States Navy Veteran who held the rank of F1c.
In New Jersey, Bill owned and operated his own automotive business and later was a foreman at Curtis-Wright aeronautics.
Upon moving to Maine in the 60's he was employed by RCA and owned and operated a family campground on Tacoma Lakes.
Bill's love of mechanics was especially evident in his work at his clock repair business during his later years.
He was a member of Christ Church, Gardiner and the American Legion in Litchfield.
William is survived by his three children; William A. Quackenbush and spouse Carole of Windham, Pamela Nicolazzo of New Hampshire and Wendy Glidden and spouse Dennis of S. Portland, as well as seven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
William's Service will be at the Chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta on September 15, 2022 at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
