VASSALBORO – William "Billy" David Zinck, 79, of Vassalboro, Maine died Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at the VA Togus Springs in Augusta, Maine.

He was born on June 24,1947 in Boston, MA to the late Frank and Eva Zinck. He grew up in Melrose, MA alongside his brothers, Frank and Eddie Zinck. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and is survived by his brother Eddie, and his wife, Bobbie Zinck.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was drafted in September 1966 for the Vietnam War and served as an Engineer of the 9thInfantry Division until June 1968 when he was honorably discharged. He received several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle, the Vietnam Service Medal, and a Purple Heart in recognition of wounds sustained in combat.

Above all, Billy was a proud father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Meghan, and her husband, Tom; his son, Scott, and his wife, Tori; and his four beloved grandchildren, Eva, Mia, Tommy, and Jovie.

One of the places closest to his heart was the family camp on Webber Pond in Vassalboro, Maine. He and his brothers spent their summers there growing up, creating memories and traditions that stayed with him throughout his life. Each brother ultimately built a house next to each other, creating what he fondly referred to as “The Zinck Compound”. In his later years, the camp continued to be a special place for him – a place filled with family, friends, and generations of memories. His love for Webber Pond and the time spent there became an enduring part of his story.

Billy will be remembered for his love of a good sunset, a stiff cocktail, and any opportunity to enjoy a lobster. His life touched those around him in ways both big and small, and the memories he created will be carried forward by those who loved him.

A funeral service will be held at staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, on Monday September 28th at 10:30 am followed by a burial with military honors at the NEW Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd, Augusta, Maine, in Section J.
